WHY GOD PERMITS EVIL
“Weeping May Endure for a Night, but Joy Cometh in the Morning.” Psalms 30:5
Many people have lost sight of God’s precious promises due to all the suffering they witness in today’s world. They wonder, “If God is love, why does He allow such evil to affect His children?” In response, we can reach one of three conclusions: either God doesn’t care; He doesn’t exist; or we might misunderstand His plans and purposes, wrongly blaming Him for all suffering. The Apostle John addresses this question in 1 John 4:8, stating, “God is love.”
While God allows evil to exist in the world, He does not create it. 2 Corinthians 4:4 refers to Satan as the “god of this world,” indicating that his influence led to humanity’s downfall. By permitting this, God is teaching humanity to despise the painful consequences of sin, encouraging them to choose to love Him and His righteousness freely.
God made man perfect and essentially gave him a choice: Leviticus 18:4, 5 states, “If you obey my righteous laws, you will live forever, but if you disobey, you will die.” Adam failed this obedience test, and since then, all of humanity has faced the painful consequences. “The soul that sins, it shall die.” Notice He did not say burn forever.
Since God embodies love, He will not allow Satan to dominate with his wickedness forever. God’s intentions include a compassionate way out of suffering and death by offering a price for Adam’s sin, which applies to ALL his descendants. “As in Adam ALL die, even so in Christ shall ALL be made alive.” 1 Corinthians 15:22 “For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” Romans 6:23
But when will this happen? Humanity is tired of this wicked world. Jesus “gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” (1 Timothy 2:5, 6) We understand that the due time is approaching as we witness prophesied events occurring on earth today. Daniel asks, “How long shall it be to the end? … many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.” Daniel 12:6, 4 This prophecy is now unmatched in history! We are on the brink of the complete realization of the “times of restitution of all things [a paradise worldwide], which God hath spoken by the mouth of all His holy prophets since the world began.” Acts 3:21
Indeed, God embodies Love. Although Satan tries to convince us otherwise, in God’s perfect timing, everyone will recognize His goodness, “from the least of them unto the greatest of them.” (Jeremiah 31:34) Then, the promised joy will arrive in the morning, “And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” Revelation 21:4
